Woven Tangles
I have a particular fascination with Woven patterns, that is, those that look like they are made of woven fibers or ribbons. Perhaps it's because my grandmother taught me fiber arts, or perhaps it's because they already come with overlap naturally embedded into the design.
Regardless, this is what Art Clubbers and I are going to explore next: tangles that appear to be woven. Here is a very small selection of my favorites:
The most obvious and basic ones are W2 and Huggins (Zentangle, but I am also in love with MI2 (Mimi Lempart), Malacca (Sandra Strait) and especially Nubia (Oswaldo Burbano Sandoval). And let's not forget Guat (Sandra Strait) which looks like a strand of crochet and Plezo (my own).
Here are some monotangles I've been exploring lately in preparation for the class. Below you can see Nubia and Malacca treated more or less with the same style:
And here you can see Malacca again, this time slightly curved. All of these have been treated with watercolors, colored pencils and gold pen.
Here's a close-up of Malacca:
And a close-up of Nubia:
I'm looking forward to seeing what my students can do!
Feel free to share or pin these pictures.
Last Friday Art Clubbers and I finished the Woven Tangles series creating a colorful version of Nubia.
