Crazy Huggins Online Session
Yesterday we had yet another awesome live online session Art Clubbers (my live online classes are entirely free for Clubbers). I explored the tangle pattern Crazy Huggins (becoming quickly a favorite of mine).
I started the class by showing participants how to create the basic unit of Huggins, but most importantly, how the line-art can be fundamental to make the final Crazy Huggins look 3-dimensional through the use of foreshortening. This can be visibly seen by adding a grid to the surface of Crazy Huggins — instead of making it straight, the grid curves and turns to model the basic unit.
Next, we worked on a project, creating not only a few regular Crazy Huggins, but also a triple one. We also explored ways to finish off the empty areas of Crazy Huggins with “leaf” and “weed” tangles such as Fescu and Mooka.
I also showed how to fill up that empty space with bubbles — someone suggested this tangle could be called “lava lamp”! If you know of a tangle with this name, then let me know, otherwise I'll create a step-out for it.
We also explored how to shade Crazy Huggins and the tangles that pop out from it. I still haven't finished my own picture — I added so much more to it that it's taking me a while to finish! I'll post it as soon as it's done.
The session had 38 participants working live with me through Zoom meeting app, and it lasted just under 1:30 hours. I can't believe how much fun it is to work together!!!! These live online sessions are quickly becoming my favorite thing to do and I look forward to them every week.
When I'm done with my own picture I will post it here on my blog!
