Hollis Tree Online Session

Yesterday we had another great online live online session for Art Clubbers (my live online classes are entirely free for Clubbers). We explored the new Zentangle pattern Hollis to create a “Hollis Tree”.

The class started by exploring how to use Hollis, the new pattern by Zentangle founders, exploring all the details of how to work with this new tangle. The new tangle makes heavy use of the S-stroke, and one of the greatest challenges is to keep the strands even and uniform.

Next, we started our project, the Hollis Tree, and learned how to create strands that overlap and grow to form a tree-structure.

We created a variation of Hollis by adding Icantoo leaves (step out by Hanny Waldburger here) at the end of the strands to give it a more “tree-look”, and some strategies on how to shade this intricate design.

The session had about 40 Clubbers working live and online with me through the Zoom platform, and lasted about 1:30 hours. A recording of the session was posted for those who couldn't attend. It was SO MUCH FUN to work together! Here is some of their wonderful work and we continue the fun through our facebook Art Club group.

After the session was over, I completed my picture with very detailed background using tangle pattern Baton (Carole Ohl) and a LOT more shading. So much Zenflow to be had in this one. It too me several delicious hours to shade and complete the background using graphite and colored pencils.

Here's a little step-out of my own project:
