African Artist and Twisted Rope
Every once in a while it's good to go back to black and white and recapture some of the basics of Zentangle. The spontaneity of the string, using a single pen to make the art, it's very calming and soothing. At the Shading & Exploring Zentangle Facebook group we're mirroring Square One and focusing on African Artist, a tangle deconstructed by Tina Hunziker here.
I started with a very simple string and added some Twisted Rope, a drawing technique I developed this year. The African Artist ogee grid formed naturally cradling the twisted rope. Here's a work in progress of the line-art:
I especially love the shade African Artist very dramatically, it's so much fun!

Last Thursday Art Clubbers and I completed Part 2 of this intricate black and white Zendala, finishing the line-art with some advanced “drawing behind” and super fun 3D shading.
