Watercolor Terrarium
I love the idea of Terrariums. Little encapsulated live environments, brimming with life in a small, contained space. Over a year ago I posted a Tangled Terrarium (can't believe it's been 14 months!) in black and white, and ever since then I have been toying with the idea of making one in color.
In retrospect, I can see now this is very influenced by @arsenika.zen, gorgeous work, visit her instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/arsenika.zen/
I started this one with a watercolor background wash (you can see the second tile I made), and then used colored pencils to shade the tangles:
Here's a little step-out, you can see how the terrarium grows in layers. Now, because I wanted to shaded this with colored pencils, the tangles are much larger and the result is quite different than the one I made back then.
Still, the effect of a really packed, dense live environment is there, and I love tight the tangling turned out. Here's a close-up:
I had so much fun! If you enjoyed this and would like to see a lesson on how to create this Watercolor Terrarium with colored pencils, email me here.
A terrarium is a small glass container with a miniature garden, artfully composed. Here's my tangled version!
