Elegan Frame Lesson
On Friday Art Clubbers and I had an online session playing with the tangle “Elegan” (Tangle Dream), learning how to create a beautiful ornate frame.
We started the session by exploring the tangle in black and white and I showed participants how I like to create that tangle with a few minor variations that suit my drawing style better.
Here you can see the comparison between the original tangle (far left) and the two versions that I like to create. The thinner Mookas are more suited for black and white work, while the thicker Mookas are best when using colored pencils.
I showed participants how to create my version using curled Mookas…
And then we created an irregular frame using Elegan, with special emphasis in dealing with the corners, and what to do there. We even added some pearls and hatching during shading.
We had 51 participants working together on Zoom. It was the largest online class I have taught to date.
Here's the beautiful frame Jenna Black created during class (all images posted with permission).
And this is how I finished my frame after class, filling it up with the tangle Gommi (deconstructed by the wonderful Carole Ohl).
Live sessions are only available to members of my Art Club, who also receive recordings of the lessons and bonus PDFs.
This piece feels like it's part of a series started several months ago. Aside from Verve, Mysealiam and Spention, I also used several unnamed fragments found in some of photographs I took during trips and outings.
