Golden Ratoon

Art Clubbers and I are working on the Double Ratoon lesson, so I proposed a small challenge to those who wanted to push themselves a little further. I used the Art Raffle app to pull out the following cards:

I suggested also that, although we pulled out the Sun String (which has radial structure), we try to use Ratoon as an Edge/Weed tangle, meaning, use it sideways. Here's a close-up of my picture:

Tangles used were Braze, Verdigogh, Ratoon, Echoism and Knase, with Opus as tangled background. All these tangles are Zentangle-originals. The coloring and shading was all done with colored pencils, I'm experimenting with my new set of Caran D’ache Pablos over a Zentangle tile (no graphite pencil here). The Zentangle tile makes the coloring a little grainy, but overall I'm very pleased with the set.

Here's a little step-out of the process:

I originally started by creating super large tangles, I didn't want to spend too much time on this project (famous last words), but the muse had other plans. I also didn't mean to color the Ratoon in gold, but again, it just came out that way.

Here's the picture again, you can see why the gold infiltrated itself in the drawing, I had been playing with it last week.

Feel free to pin and share these images if you like!
