Some Excellent Tangling
One of the most unexpected side-effects of creating step-outs for my Art Raffle app (it's totally free!) is that I get to know some amazing tangles that I didn't know before. One of those tangles is XLnt, originally deconstructed by Jody Genovese, a wonderfully dedicated and inquisitive artist, always trying to refine her art. She kindly submitted all of her tangles to be included in the app. (To submit your pattern, visit this page).
After working on the step-out for the app, I found myself coming back to XLnt again and again. My first picture coincided with my discovery of Zentangle's kitchen table video on Embedded Letters, so I had to include that just for fun.
In the picture above you can see how I also used Jody's Travel tangle at the bottom, a tangleation of Ravel (Zentangle). Below you can see the line-art before and after shading. Just love that string, created some great opportunity for overlap!
Here's another one, with a slightly different string, and in the back you can see the tangle Tufton (Jodi Christiansen), super fun and contrasting nicely with XLnt.
The third one was made on a Zendala — more room to play with a thicker pen — and I used colored pencils to do the shading. VERY VERY fun. At the bottom you can see another tangle that I learned recently, Crestfallen (by the talented Antonine Koval).
Here's a close-up of the Zendala:
Overall, this sequence was a LOT OF EXCELLENT tangling (no pun intended), and is also the topic of my next live online class.
