Jewel Tones Lesson
Yesterday (Friday) had the most fantastic lesson with the Art Clubbers. We created these jewel-toned tangled tiles using watercolor background and colored pencils. Such fun!!!
We started by creating a watercolor background over a string I call (5 Curves + 1 Across). After the background was dry, we tangled very large and dramatically using a Micron PN pen.
The tangles we used included: Toodles, Gourdgeous, Mooka, Fife, Dewd, Printemps — all by Zentangle — and the "Like a Kite” tangle that has no name, which Maria showed on Project Pack #8 (Day 5). Here is the piece even before we started the shading/coloring. Wow!
Next we explored how to shade using "corner shading", a technique that is not primarily worried about creating a 3D effect, but rather works based on contrast and detailed placement of the darker tones.
And finally, we added tons of little gems using white gel pen, which make the tile positively brilliant and sparkling.
We had a huge group of 75 people working together on Zoom. Look at all those happy faces at the end of class showing their glorious work.
Here is a close-up of the piece we made in class, for you to inspect.
As usual, all my online live classes are available for all Art Clubbers. Video recordings are made available for those who cannot participate. . Learn more here

I've been MIA for over 20 days for a good reason: my husband and I went on a month-long adventure which included crossing the Atlantic on a cruise from Europe to Brasil, with some dear friends. Before leaving I selected some pictures to work on while aboard: this one is based on a Gothic artifact found in the John Leighton’s Suggestion of Designs (1880) found in archive dot org. Inktense pencils and Pitt Brush pens with a waterbrush.
