Shading Coffering Class
Today Art Clubbers and I played with a rather challenging type of skill: Shading Coffering. Coffering is a term Maria Thomas introduced to Zentangle world through Project Pack 7, it’s extracted from architecture and represents sunken panels usually seen in ceilings and cabinets.
We started by using a line-art configuration similar to the one shown in PP7, with two sets of curved frames.
The line-art itself is rather simple with tons of auras that are connected through diagonal lines to simulate the coffering.
We used a handmade paper model (previously constructed in one of the bonus videos) to understand the shading.
Next came the tricky part: shading. We started very gradually and slowly, shading what we understood well.
Aside from shading coffering, we also learned how to apply a metallic effect to the frame.
Here you can see how the shading gradually starts to get more and more defined, increasing the 3D effect of the coffering.
I also showed other samples with different backgrounds and frame effects.
Here's the final picture we developed in class:

Here's another contribution to the To You Tangle 2023 using Dinbatz and Mooka. My pen also brought into the mix some coffering, Flux, Buen Camino (Tina Hunziker) and Icanthis.
