Palazzo Tangles Lesson Part 1

On Friday my Art Club members and I started a new series of lessons inspired by an Italian Medieval/Renaissance Palazzo in Florence.

After a quick virtual tour around Florence, Italy using Google Earth, we started to work on extracting some of the patterns and tangles. The extraction is more of an adaptation, not an identical extraction.

We really focused on finding patterns that would get us into a rhythm of drawing, not just copying a motif. A tangle is always a repetitive pattern, but not every pattern is a tangle.

The idea is to be inspired by the historic work, not to do a direct copy.

Here's my sampler after I finished it off with pieces of the other rooms. Next stop, working with the Markus Operandus to create some Zendala strings.
