Faux Viking Knots Lesson
This past Tuesday we had a live class on Zoom on how to create “Viking-looking” knots. They are not REAL knots, they are actually the tangles Yah and Jaysix dressed up as Viking/Romanesque knows found in Scandinavian Stave church portals.
Below you can find an example (click to see the source of this picture on Wikimedia Commons)
Here you can see the similarities between my drawing and the Viking portal drawing (click on here to see source on Wikimedia Commons).
We started by learning how to create the line-art with terminals and ribbons. I used a mix of tangles Yah (Emily Classon) and Jaysix (Eni Oken).
We added terminals mimicking shapes of animals limbs and embellishments:
And finally, ended the project by shading carefully using black colored pencil.
Look at all that cool work! We stayed for over 2 hours, with over 60 participants on zoom:

A group of friends pulled out an Art Raffle, and there were just too many tangles I love, I couldn't resist. The only change I made was the string, I used a Mirrored string instead of the original. Tangles were Kercott (Yuru Chen), Bilt (Lisa Skeen), Medusa (Tomas Padros), Ravel (Zentangle) and Freeform knots. I also added some Fishskirt for good measure.
