Fantasy Agates Lesson now back again
Aaaaand…. another older lesson passed to the new lessons website on teachable. You're probably getting tired of these. I'm really committed to passing most of my older lessons — revamped and upgraded with bonus materials — to the new system before the end of the year. Let's see if I can do it!
The interesting thing about this process is that I'm really amazed at how much material there is. Who knew that we could discover so many things together. This lesson is dear to my heart because it covers COLOR, in a very unique and simple way.
Just in case you didn't know this, I was a color theory teacher for many years, teaching at conferences and special workshops, especially during the time when I was in computer graphics and video games. I was fanatic about different color palettes and encouraging people to break the every gray model of sci-fi and fantasy palettes.
This is one of my 3D computer graphics pieces — it's called Little Village, and you can see how I manage to convey a fantasy design but without the eternal gray. I encouraged students to create very cohesive and well thought out color palettes to create dramatic results.
So, as you can imagine, color IS very dear and near to me. However, in recent years, I got tired of all the theory and just wanted to find a way to use color in a soothing, meditative way. 20 years later, enter Fantasy Agates.
In this lesson, not only I'll show you how to create these meditative pictures that resemble somewhat agates, but also to explore color palettes through a very unique and easy to grasp method. It all starts by creating a super simple color chart, with your own paints and whatever you have available:
I'll tell you the secret: instead of thinking of the colors that will be INCLUDED in your palette, think of the ones that will be EXCLUDED. That's right! By choosing the ones that are excluded and never touched at all, you are free to use all the others to form a very cohesive palette. (Well, there is a little more to it, but that's included in the lesson).
The lesson not only shows you how to create these super fun fantasy agates, but also how to use them as a background for blossom tangles, to create a vibrant picture.
I got numerous requests to fast track this lesson so that it would be available once again at the new lesson shop, so here it is!
This wonderful lesson on how to create soothing and meditative “fantasy agates” is back again in the new lesson shop. It also shows you how to use controlled color palettes in your art without the pain of learning color theory.
