Back to Basics and 2021 Art Club Recap
Last Sunday Art Clubbers and I had a “Back to Basics” session. This was an interesting session because I also did a recap of my favorite classes taught during the year. You can see this in the video clip below:
After the short year recap, we tangled together on a Back to Basics class, using the classic Z-string and tangles Crescent Moon, Hollibaugh, Printemps and Bales (all tangles Zentangle). What I love about this combo is that no two tiles are the same! You can see two of my own side by side:
We started with the classic tangles, using Crescent Moon. During the entire session, I gave Clubbers simple prompts to stimulate their creativity. For example, we added Crescent Moon on two sides instead of one, and later creating oval auras instead of circular.
We also added Hollibaugh and Printemps in the same section instead of two, and worked Hollibaugh wrapped around the string.
After tangling, we worked the shading:
Here's my final tile. Love it!
Here is the sequence again in one single image:
Here’s another one I completed just recently, look how different it is!
And here is the before and after shading for this second one:

A few weeks ago one my friends suggested a “skyline” string over a mass of water. I used mooka3d, Alfie (Angie Gittles), Nik (Bunny Wright) and Dillo-tant (Lisa Goldman). I wonder if the buildings are emerging or submerging? :-)
