Articulated Molygon and Hollis
I had an unfinished drawing of an Articulated Molygon variation (a concept by Zentangle founders here) and was wondering what to do with it. Meanwhile, on “another part of town”, I was playing with Hollis on my ipad (a new tangle also by Zentangle founders, find the step-out here). So I combined the two!
Here you can see how I started to practice Hollis on my ipad and it got completely out of hand, growing and growing. I also added a little bit of Icantoo (Hanny Waldburger) to form leaves on the extremities of the Hollis vine.
This is the final picture, printed from my ipad:
After that crazy Hollis exercise, I decided to use Hollis again in the negative space formed by this Articulated Molygon variation that I've been playing with for some time, and didn't know what to do to finish it off. It formed some kind of bizarre sci-fi structure!
I love what's happening here, total magic of Zentangle and completely unexpected. To separate these two very dense and heavily ornate areas, I used watercolor pencils and heavy shading. Here's a step-out:
If you enjoyed these ideas and would like to see a lesson in the future on either design — Hollis or the Articulated Molygon variation, then send me a little message here.
A super fun class with Art Clubbers, learning how to explore articulated Molygon into gorgeous 3-dimensional towers.
