Zombie Paushalov

The focus tangle for this week's challenge at my Facebook Shading Zentangle® group is Paushalov, deconstructed by Amy Broady here.

Every tile teaches me something new or reminds me of something I already knew. What I learned in this one? Sleep is fundamental :-) Without sleep, you walk around like a zombi, unable to focus on anything, making obvious spelling mistakes. Another sleepless night! Luckily Zentangle was there for me!

Here is the line-art:

I had started this tile a few days ago, and that was a good thing. Yesterday I was able to complete the second sitting, shading and coloring. Most times I create tiles in two sittings of a 45 to 60 minutes each.

The tangles used in this one were: Baton (Carole Ohl), Purk (Zentangle), Crescent Moon (Zentangle), Paushalov (Amy Broady) and Scallops (Suzanne McNeill).

I colored this one using Caran D'Ache Neocolor watercolor crayons, a little bit of colored pencils, and graphite pencil for the super darks.

I love the rustic effect of combining the watercolors with pencil!

It seems like more than one thing is resurfacing from a long time ago. In what seems like another life-time, I was a specialist in textures for video games. My trademark style was combining ultra fantasy ornament with distress and cracks. This cracked wall is just there, looking at me and reminding me of that time.

I create the picture below almost TWO DECADES ago, and I see some similarities with the color scheme and the combination with distressed walls. I guess we never lose some things!

I added the tile to my 3-ring binder -- am loving this one! It measures 8x8 inches and has pockets measuring 4x4. You can get your own here
