White Carvings Part 1
Yesterday Art Clubbers and I started a new series of lessons called “White Carvings”. This is based on a technique I developed inspired by the gorgeous plasterwork carvings of the Alhambra, in Spain.
We started the session exploring a little of the massive fortress through Google Earth:
We analyzed several pictures from the Lion's Court. This one is by Jebulon, CC0, via Wikimedia Commons:
After the tour, we started to explore the technique, starting from the very beginning, using simple shapes.
There were 61 participants, here is some of their work:
Next week we continue with Part 2, slowly increasing complexity.
Please feel free to share or pin these pictures.
And yet another White Carvings, this one with mini gems. I'm addicted!
Today Art Clubbers and I worked on finalizing the beautiful ataurique motif that we started in Part 2.
Here's another White Carvings picture, this time with traditional motifs and a tangleation of Waybop tangle.
I was so surprised when this MORPHED chain happened yesterday, using White Carvings technique.
In Part 1 of the White Carvings series, we toured (virtually) the Alhambra in Spain and practiced “carving” some basic shapes.
Continuing my explorations of White Carving, simulating the plasterwork of the Alhambra in Spain.
Art History classes are influencing my work. This one was inspired by the plasterwork of the Alhambra in Spain.
Art Clubbers and I finished the fourth and last part of the White Carvings series, adapting the technique to traditional tangles.
