Tangled Initials lesson now back again

Another lessons makes the transition to the teachable school, now proven to be an excellent platform for delivering all the materials related to a lesson. Loving it so much!

This lesson is almost a continuation of the Tangled Words lesson, but the letters are more complex and rich. It’s really tricky to make tangle letters that can be read easily, most decorated letters become so over the top ornate you can’t tell which letter it is anymore.

This lesson starts by showing my unique method of creating these gorgeous initials, which involves “markers” and “segments”. We start easy, creating a (relatively) simple letter A:

After that, we explore a much more intricate design, starting by developing the line-art for this complex letter E.

The lesson shows every detail of the process, from line-art to ornamentation, and even showing you how to create shading that can make your initials look more 3D, almost as if they were popping off the page.

The lesson comes packed with case studies of different initials, but once you understand the method, you can apply it to any initial you like, even numbers or symbols, to form acronyms or short words.

The method I show you in this lesson even works for lower case isolated initials, such as this one:
