Partner up and string your distress

The whole month of April 2017 we're playing with distressed tiles at my Facebook group Shading Zentangle®, and I'm writing a book on how to tangle over these beautiful formations.

My friend Deb Correia approached me asking me how does one select the parts to tangle, and how to deal with the fear of ruining a beautifully distressed tile. 

So we started this little game: I selected my favorite parts of HER tile so she could tangle AROUND them, while she selected her favorite from mine. This way we each created a sort of "string" for the other!

DEB'S TANGLE:

(Posted with permission). I just love the drips and long lines in this tile, so I circled three areas that were busier which I liked best. 

Based roughly on the areas I selected for her, Deb tangled around and created this GORGEOUS TANGLE:

ENI'S TANGLE:

I sent Deb this picture of a tile that I was having a very hard time using, because it has so many wonderful organic formations and gold. 

Deb circled two major areas that she liked most, so I could tangle in the center.

If you want to play the same game, just partner up and do the following:

1) Choose a partner to work with. 

2) Send each other a picture of your distressed tile, as large as possible. 

3) Use an app like Paint (Win) or Preview (Mac) to circle the areas you like. 

4) Send the image back to your partner!

5) Tangle around the areas your partner selected. 

6) Use hashtag #distressedshader when posting on Facebook or social media.
