Mirrored Garden & Zentangle Beyond Language
Today is the first official day when people can enroll in Shie Naritomi’s event Zentangle Beyond Language. I am honored to be one of the 6 teachers teaching in this event, along with Shie herself, Tomàs Padrós, Henriette Robben, Jenice Kee and Anica Gabrovec aka Zen Linea. The teachers developed projects based on the theme “Garden”, and the videos were made to be understandable without the use of excessive instructions.
My project is called Mirrored Garden and is inspired in the Renaissance mirrored candelabra, designed over a Phi tile.
In this project, we start by developing the mirrored line-art with flower and leaf motifs, showing you a technique on how to create a mirrored string using tracing paper.
In this project I use three tangles: Icanthis (Zentangle), a Ravel flower (a tangleation of Zentangle's Ravel) and a BRAND NEW tangle I call Copino. Here are the step-outs for Copino. More on Copino will come soon in another blog post!
After the line-art is complete, we also use watercolors to complete the background.
Here are a few close-ups for you to inspect:

Last week the lovely Jane Osborne conducted us through a session at CZT After Hours creating a star string. After I filled it up with tangles - Hamsix (Alena Light), Betweed, Fluxecho (Lynn Mead) and others, I decided to shade this with ballpoint pen again - not my brightest decision. I think I might have overdone it this time…
