Garlic Cloves and Accidents

I can't believe how long its been since I posted on my blog. Almost two weeks! I have a very good excuse.... Working on another book, and I'm completely inspired with this one!

The focus tangle for the Shading Zentangle® FB group challenge this week is Garlic Cloves, a wonderfully fun tangle deconstructed by Jacquelien Bredenoord here

What a fun tangle to create! I simply loved this one.

Accidental String

The first tile I picked up was one had, serendipitously, these kinds of marks a pencil makes when you store paper and pencil together carelessly. I figured nothing is an accident and decided to use the accidental marks as my string.

This is the tile as I picked it up from my bag, aren't these marks wonderful?

Here I reinforced the marks so you can see them better:

Garlic Cloves

This is the tile after I added Garlic Cloves to it. I love this! A great example of how strings help us to create the most bizarre and wonderful things.

To counterbalance a little the organic nature of the tile, I added a large Fengle:

Look Ma, no pencil!

Another little "accident". As I created Fengle, I noticed there was simply too much white, not enough contrast. Still using only the inking pen, I started to add contour hatching everywhere.

I decided to create an extra little challenge for myself and NOT use pencil for the shading. How much contrast and shading could I add with the inking pen alone?

This is the final tile using ONLY THE MICRON 01 INKING PEN, WITHOUT ANY PENCIL SHADING! HOW fun was that!

The final tile has tangles Garlic Cloves, Fengle (Zentangle), Crescent Moon (Zentangle).

No pencil. No markers. No fixed source of light. ONLY THE MICRON, THE TILE AND ME.

Sure, it's not as dramatic as many of my other tiles, but it has an engraved quality I really like.  Such fun!
