Cadent as a String in 3D
Happy Valentine's Day! Don't know exactly why, but I'm fascinated with "Cadent as a string”. I can't get enough of it. This one really took off far away from the original inspiration by Zentangle's Project Pack #07. I'm still using the gray tiles with the same color scheme, what a lovely combination of blue and brown/gold.
I used the same materials provided in Zentangle's kit, the dark blue PN pen and a lighter blue 01 Micron, both by Sakura.
To shade, I used, once again, my favorite watercolor pencils from the Albrecht Durer by Faber Castell (this link above takes you to Amazon and is an affiliate link). I started by adding more than one Cadent, in a row, you can see the process in this little step-out:
Super fun 3-dimensional effect caused by the external and internal echolines, such interesting effect.
After tangling, I finished off the rest of the tile with some light watercolor pencils and tangled Sandswirl (Karry Heun) in the negative space. Loooove the blue and gold combo!
This color scheme was not my favorite when I finished the piece - what was I thinking! - but it's starting to grow on me. Here is Pickpocket (Tomàs Padros) and also a coiled ribbon pattern similar to Cadent with a lotus in the middle, found on Plate X (Egyptian) of the Grammar of Ornament by Owen Jones, 1865. Ancient Egyptian ornament was mostly very geometric; flowing lines like this were very rare. Tangled with inktense and pitt artist brush pens.
