Azura Over the Top

In between one long project and the next, Art Clubbers and I have a Tangle Play session. This type of session is when we explore a tangle that is new - or forgotten - to us. In the last Tangle Play session we explored Azura (Theresa Fessler).

After the session was over, I was intrigued and played with the tangle. The original tangle is elegant, but can I embellish it? Here’s the before and after shading:

I feel that the tangle got REALLY busy, and am not particularly happy with the level of contrast, even with shading. But now I know!!! Sometimes embellishment CAN be too much. Here’s a close-up for you to inspect:

Last Thursday Art Clubbers and I worked on Part 1 of the lovely Tree of Life ZIA project. We created the line-art for the tree branches, leaves and flowers. In Part 2 we'll work on the frame, background and shading.

I think we are all a little in love with Tomàs Padro's new tangle Medusa. Here I'm posting two simple tiles where I explored the shading and different ways to construct the underlying ogee grid. I suspect Medusa is going to appear more in my work very soon!

I had a blast making these two pieces combining Wartz (Genevieve Crabe) with Sinkhole and Spherify! The Art Raffle gave me this difficult combination, but it was a fun experiment and I'm super happy with it.

Last week Art Clubbers and I had a Tangle Play session including Wyfore - where we explore tangles and make index cards - and I decided to combine it with Drawings over a triangular string. Very fun to play with!
