Turtle-inspired Bucky Mandala
I've been away for the last 10 days on a much deserved and long-awaited vacation. It's been 3.5 years! During this time, I drew very little, trying to find inspiration on my surroundings rather than on well known tangles.
This picture was inspired by the idea of a turtle. It just so happens that the turtle (or tortoise) is a symbol of perseverance and resilience, something we all could use a little more of in our lives. The shell of the turtle reminded me of the tangle Bucky, a tangle I haven't used very much at all.
I used a modified version of Bucky - the hexagonal fragment is quite beautiful. Here's a step-out of the freeform mandala:

The gorgeous Tree of Life video class is now available at my shop for individual purchase. This is a two part advanced video class.
I am always surprised at what comes out of my pen when drawing intuitive art. I don't think this classifies as Zentangle, but it was drawn in the same intuitive and unplanned manner, other than wanting to use a couple of fragments I had drawn on my recipe cards.
Today Art Clubbers and I worked on Part 2 of the lovely Tree of Life ZIA project. We worked on the frame, background and shading.
Last Thursday Art Clubbers and I worked on Part 1 of the lovely Tree of Life ZIA project. We created the line-art for the tree branches, leaves and flowers. In Part 2 we'll work on the frame, background and shading.
I think we are all a little in love with Tomàs Padro's new tangle Medusa. Here I'm posting two simple tiles where I explored the shading and different ways to construct the underlying ogee grid. I suspect Medusa is going to appear more in my work very soon!
I had a blast making these two pieces combining Wartz (Genevieve Crabe) with Sinkhole and Spherify! The Art Raffle gave me this difficult combination, but it was a fun experiment and I'm super happy with it.
Two pieces with Hollis over a triangular string, sprouting from a fancy triangular fragment. One of them also plays with 3D cuffs over Wyfore. Fun!
Last week Art Clubbers and I had a Tangle Play session including Wyfore - where we explore tangles and make index cards - and I decided to combine it with Drawings over a triangular string. Very fun to play with!
I’m still incredibly inspired by project pack 20. In these images I combined Drawings and Myseliam (and some other stuff too). Can't get enough of these Blossom tangles.
A few weeks ago one my friends suggested a “skyline” string over a mass of water. I used mooka3d, Alfie (Angie Gittles), Nik (Bunny Wright) and Dillo-tant (Lisa Goldman). I wonder if the buildings are emerging or submerging? :-)
