Tangling with Echo Lines
You probably already heard me (virtually) talking about ECHO LINES. These are similar to auras, but not quite. Echo Lines go around a shape only partially, reducing or enlarging while forming a sort of 3-dimensional model.
Here are some pictures from my journal:
Aside from shading, Echo Lines are arguably the tool which can most effectively convey deep 3D. I love using echo lines!
There are many named tangles which use echo lines -- Joki, Ruutz, Prasima and Trelina are just some of my favorites.
During my offline break last September, I played quite a bit with ECHO LINES, and got into some pretty good meditative flow.
This one looks like a cross between tangle Scena and Hypnotic:
Although the process is largely intuitive, there are some definite rules and tricks that can be used to get more organic and interesting results, making the process a little bit easier.
I'm distilling some of the rules on how to use Echo Lines, and if there is enough interest, I will compile them into an ebook. Let me know if you would like to learn more about this super cool technique.
Echo line tangling
Can echo line rules be used in a real tangled tile? I'm pretty happy with the results of this one, looks like some super organic mesh:
Here is the line-art with a little bit of shading:
And here is the final tile with shading:
What fun, I love this!!!!
