TangleU 2022 Recap
I'm back home after a fantastic trip to Pennsylvania where I stayed at my good friend Mary Rose's place. Aside from being THE most gracious host for 10 exciting days, we had a BLAST together visiting Christ Titus in New York, and we went to the Corning Museum of Glass and did some touristy things in Lancaster.
A day or two before the conference we did some light drawing and Mary Rose was kind enough to show me some of her techniques (some of which are not shown here because she'll be coming up with some fabulous new classes). Here's one picture I created with her help using Art Impressions stamps, around which I did some light tangling:
During the conference proper, we were joined by Sheila Grube, a talented and vibrant CZT.
TangleU started: on opening night we did a fun black and white Zendala conducted by Elaine Huffman, organizer of the event.
I taught my Blue Flower Zendala class on the very first morning of day 1. Here you can see it in orange and blue and also a version over tan Zendala (will post a separate blog for that).
From that moment on, it was all enjoyment. The line-up of teachers was fantastic! Margaret Bremner - one of my all time favorite Zentangle teachers EVER - taught us the House of Dreams:
On the first evening of the event I also took Mary Rose's optional Kaleidoscope and Mindfulness class. This class completely different than the recent Project Pack by Zentangle founders. I was able to admire my friend's BRILLIANCY and her thoughtful process in planning a class that was fun, relaxing and incredibly inspiring.
On day two, we visited Sheila's place, a wonderful studio near a stream with a fishery and an actual private pond (more like a lake!).
Day 2 started with Sandra Rushton, a lovely UK CZT with a melodious voice like a water nymph taught us a ZIA with a hummingbird. I took bits and pieces of her class to do my own thing:
Next the super clever and fantastic Lynn Mead, another one of my all time favorites taught us bi-directional shading, a technique she has long used to create an interesting look to her Zentangle art. If it had been up to me I could have stayed all day working in black and white with Lynn! She ended the class with a colorful project and I couldn't resist doing a little bit of rainbow shading in that one.
The third day: we challenged ourselves with a class held by the magnificent Annie Reiser. We worked a grisaille technique underpainting over a botanical motif.
I also can't forget to mention the Morning Zen bijous, done every morning before the classes as a way to warm up, conducted by Elaine Huffman. Look at that fun version of Pepper!
The conference ended with two more super fun classes by excellent teachers I admire, but by then I was too fried for anything. A color wheel by the wonderful Jennifer Cottrell (thank you for all the Chair Yoga stretches), and Nancy Dawes, a dear friend who is known for her celtic knot classes.
Feel free to pin or share these pictures if you like.
Last week the lovely Jane Osborne conducted us through a session at CZT After Hours creating a star string. After I filled it up with tangles - Hamsix (Alena Light), Betweed, Fluxecho (Lynn Mead) and others, I decided to shade this with ballpoint pen again - not my brightest decision. I think I might have overdone it this time…
