Choosing Tangles: Exercise 2

This week everyone is tangling with intent to show support and love to Lily Moon, one of our most beloved Zentangle artists who is going through some very rough patches. The wonderfully friendly facebook group Square One Purely Zentangle asked us to dedicate a tile to Lily, creating with INTENT, using a heart as a string and some of Lily's tangles.

Lily has four beautiful tangles, which interestingly enough, I have never used. So I decided to choose one of her tangles for the second exercise of the Choosing Tangles monthly challenge and get to know it better. I selected Andante, a ribbon type pattern. You can find Lily's Step-out here.

I followed my "get to know" system and created some studies, a recipe card Step-out and a bijou tile for my Tangle Index.

Here is the string to the final tile. I LOVE the very dramatic ribbon it formed around the heart shape. However, clearly I didn't practice enough because at one point I got really confused about the direction of the spirals. Need more practice! Here is the string and the final tile:

I combined Andante with Hypnotic (Elena) and Hollibaugh (Zentangle), two very familiar tangles.

I really love how the shading turned out, very dramatic! Here's the summary on one of my Choosing Tangle templates:

Dear Lily, I dedicate this tile to you. May you find the strength and courage to go through these difficult times!
