Netted Cap Drop

This is one of my signature designs: a lacy netted cap created with hair-thin 28 or 30 ga wire worked over a coiled bezel on a flat pear briolette. The effect is amazingly airy and delicate and can be used to create pendants for necklaces or earrings.  Here you can see a variety of examples. Materials for one wrapped flat pear:

  • 7 inches 20 ga wire (soft or half-hard)
  • 1 smooth or faceted flat pear briolette bead (7/8" by 1.5")
  • 3.5 feet of 28ga soft wire for bezel
  • 3 feet of 28 or 30 ga wire for netting
  • 28 2mm bead

Note: the hole on the flat pear bead should be top drilled, that is, horizontal at the top of the bead.

Note 2: This technique can be used for any size flat pear, however, can be proven difficult to execute in beads smaller than 7/8" high. Start with larger sizes for practice.
